OpenClaw: Everything You Need to Know About This Viral Open-Source AI Agent

What if your AI agent assistant didn’t just chat or write code but carried out real, helpful tasks — all on its own? And what if it could perform especially complicated tasks, like running scheduled tasks, managing your Gmail and WhatsApp messages or even controlling your smart home — again, all on its own?. That’s the promise of OpenClaw (known briefly as Clawdbot and even more briefly as Moltbot), an open-source AI agent designed to execute tasks autonomously across all the services and apps you use most.. OpenClaw had quite the chaotic genesis. The platform’s almost overnight viral success brought on a rapid succession of crypto scammers hijacking X accounts, a panicked founder accidentally giving away his personal GitHub handle to bots and a lobster mascot that briefly sprouted a disturbingly handsome human face. Oh, and somewhere in the chaos, the AI developer Anthropic (which owns a set of commercial LLMs named Claude) sent a polite email asking them to please, for the love of trademarks, change the name from Clawdbot.. This strangely elaborate internet lore birthed OpenClaw. Behind the drama, it’s the same AI assistant as Clawdbot, but with a newer, sturdier shell. And while this technology is drawing major attention, it’s also drawing major scrutiny over the security risks that come along with these functionalities that are only beginning to be fully understood.. What is OpenClaw?. Here’s the OpenClaw pitch that had online tech communities buzzing: an AI assistant that doesn’t just chat; it does stuff. Real stuff. On your computer. Through the apps you use every day.. OpenClaw lives where you communicate, like WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage, Slack, Discord, Signal and more. You can text it like you’d text a friend, and it remembers your conversations from weeks ago and can send you proactive reminders. And if you give it permission, it can automate tasks, run commands and basically act like a digital personal assistant that never sleeps.. Peter Steinberger is an Austrian developer who sold his company PSPDFKit for around $119 million and then got bored enough to build this AI.. OpenClaw represents what a lot of people thought Siri should have been all along: not a voice-activated party trick, but an actual assistant that learns, remembers and gets things done. (CNET reached out to Steinberger for comment on this story.). OpenClaw doesn’t require any specific hardware to run, though the Mac Mini seems like the most popular choice. The core idea is that OpenClaw itself mostly routes messages to AI companies’ servers and calls APIs, and the heavy AI work happens on whichever LLM you select: Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini.. Hardware only becomes a bigger conversation if you want to run large local models or do heavy automation. That’s where powerful machines, like the Mac Mini, are often brought into the conversation. But that’s not a requirement.. The project launched in January and hit 9,000 GitHub stars within 24 hours. After about a week of be

Best Family Phone Plans for 2026

Is everyone in the family happy with their phone plan? With cellular data, it’s hard to find the right combination of features, perks and cost (and carriers such as T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T don’t make it easy to choose). So we’ve come up with recommendations for families or groups of three or more people who are switching from another plan or adding more members to an account.. Best family phone plans for 2026. Pros. T-Mobile’s 5G network is generally robust. Plan includes 50GB of high-speed data in the US. Phone can be used as a hotspot. Unlimited calls, texts and data in Canada and Mexico. Can have up to six lines on an account. Third line free is a better deal than Essentials Saver. Cons. Data in Canada and Mexico limited to very slow 2G speeds. Hotspot is limited to 3G speeds. No five-year price guarantee. Everyone must be on the same plan. Taxes and fees aren’t included in monthly cost. If you compare the specifics of T-Mobile’s Essentials and Essentials Saver plans, you might think the company forgot to update one or the other — they’re Essential-ly the same. With both, you get 50GB of fast Premium 5G data (depending on the network capabilities in your area), which drops to 3G speeds of still-unlimited data after that allotment is used up. You can use your phone as a mobile hotspot with unlimited data, but only at 3G speeds and restricted to paltry 2G speeds when you’re in Canada or Mexico. In those two countries, calls, text and data are unlimited, while calls made from around 215 other countries are charged at 25 cents a minute.. The Essentials plan also doesn’t include perks such as streaming video from Netflix, nor the five-year price guarantee found on the Experience More and Experience Beyond plans. T-Satellite service is also not included, though it can be added for $10 a month.. Where Essentials comes out ahead of Essentials Saver is the number of lines you can have on your account. Essentials Saver is limited to just three, but Essentials can accommodate six lines. In fact, a trio of people will save money going with Essentials due to a free third-line deal, paying $90 a month (plus taxes and fees) for a $10 savings over Essentials Saver. If your household needs four lines, an Essentials 4-Line Offer plan takes advantage of the third-line deal for $100 a month.. However, if you need just one or two lines, Essentials Saver is still the better deal. A single line on Saver is still the better offer at $50 a month compared with $60 for the same features on Essentials, and two lines on Saver costs $80 a month compared with $90 for Essentials.. Why we like it. You get a solid level of basic phone service, with unlimited calls, texts and data, 50GB of premium higher-speed data and better pricing than the Essentials Saver plan for three or more lines (up to six).. Who it’s best for. Essentials is great for a cost-conscious family of three or more that wants unlimited everything, even at some slower speeds.. Who shouldn’t get it. This pl

‘Marshals’ Star Logan Marshall-Green on Why ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Is More Than a Procedural

Marshals is the latest TV series to expand the Yellowstone story universe, and it’s landed on CBS. The show, inspired by the characters created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, centers on Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes). In an effort to forge a new beginning, Kayce joins the US Marshals. However, as much as he tries to move forward, unresolved demons from his past resurface in unexpected ways.. Kayce is taken out of his comfort zone with the marshals, but also finds a place to focus his skills. This Marshals crew is led by Pete Calvin (Logan Marshall-Green) — known to his crew as “Cal” — and also includes Yellowstone universe newcomers Belle Skinner (Arielle Kebbel), Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos) and Miles Kittle (Tatanka Means).. Yellowstone actors Gil Birmingham, Moses Brings Plenty and Brecken Merrill reprise their roles as Thomas Rainwater, Mo and Tate Dutton, respectively, meaning a narrative throughline involving the Black Rock Reservation and its community keeps the series tethered to Paramount Network’s landmark show.. See at Paramount Plus. It feels like a lot of work to strike the right balance between creating a new law enforcement procedural and honoring Yellowstone’s history. I spoke with Marshall-Green about that challenge, his role as the crew’s leader and how Marshals aims to be more than a typical CBS procedural. The transcript below has been edited for clarity.. Read more: Paramount Plus and HBO Max Will Merge Into One Streaming Service. Tatanka Means, Ash Santos, Arielle Kebbel, Logan Marshall-Green and Luke Grimes star in Marshals. Sonja Flemming/CBS. What does Kayce Dutton really mean to Cal? Is he just there to be a door kicker for the team, or does he represent something deeper, something more familial, given their shared military background?. Marshall-Green: There is definitely history with Cal and Kayce, and from when you leave Yellowstone to when you pick up with Marshals, it’s about, I think, a year, maybe two, but Kayce has gone through something massive. Cal has already been in the area creating this team; Kayce was the last person to join it.. I think he saw Kayce’s need for purpose because of what he was going through. The reason he could understand that is because of another relationship they both shared. That relationship will be doled out, not in a linear, procedural way. Actually, the show will evolve into something much less linear, with flashbacks. We’re going to go back to Afghanistan, eventually.. But to answer your question, simply: Cal needed a door kicker.. Luke Grimes and Logan Marshall-Green star in Marshals. Sonja Flemming/CBS. Marshals is performing an interesting balancing act. On one side, it focuses on the law enforcement procedural narrative of the series; on the other, Yellowstone history comes into play. What sort of challenges did you face, or what creative conversations did you have, about striking that balance?. Marshall-Green: I think the balance between serving Yellowstone and that universe, and

8 Hidden Health Benefits of Green Tea

If you simply want to cut back on coffee or find yourself approaching the 400-milligram daily recommendation for most adults, green tea is a great alternative, containing at least three times less caffeine than a 12-ounce cup of joe. Switching to green tea can be particularly beneficial if you find that coffee gives you headaches, makes you anxious or leaves you jittery.. Along with being a coffee alternative, green tea also has plenty of health benefits that can give your body an extra boost.. Where green tea comes from. Green tea has a long history dating back to about 3000 BC in China. Its beginnings as a medicinal beverage led to green tea becoming one of the world’s most popular drinks; the global tea market is now worth over $300 billion.. Green tea is an unoxidized tea that comes from the Camellia sinensis plant. It grows in Asia, primarily in China and Japan. The tea leaves are plucked and then heated to prevent oxidation and preserve catechins, a natural flavonoid compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Leaves are then rolled and dried, though the processing method can differ depending on the region.. Matcha, Moroccan mint and jasmine are just three popular types of green tea. xPacifica/Getty Images. A few popular types of green tea include:. Matcha. Sencha. Moroccan mint. Jasmine. Longjing. Gunpowder. Mao Feng. Green tea is the most widely consumed tea and has the most health benefits, making up around 20% of the global tea production market.. Water temperature and steeping time vary by tea type. The ideal way to prepare green tea is to steep it for about 3 minutes with water at 180 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit. Your tea could become astringent if you use water that’s too hot, as tannins are released. Consider an electric water kettle that lets you set the temperature for optimal results.. A cup of green tea contains 15 to 48mg of caffeine per 8-ounce serving. The caffeine content increases if you steep for more than 3 minutes, but decreases if you reuse the tea bag.. When compared to coffee, green tea can provide a more sustained and calm focus. Granger Wootz/Getty Images. What happens when you switch from coffee to green tea. I’m a coffee and tea lover. A typical day used to start with one or two cups of hot, steamy coffee. Then, I would switch to green or herbal tea and water to stay hydrated. But I began to notice that I was getting jittery, and my stomach wasn’t feeling so great, even with just one cup of coffee.. I decided to swap out coffee for green tea to see what would happen to my body. I wasn’t as jittery anymore, but I still had focus. “Thanks to its L-theanine content, green tea provides a more sustained and calm focus, without the jitteriness or crash that some experience with coffee,” said Alison Tierney, board-certified oncology dietician and cancer survivor.. My stomach is also feeling a lot better. Tierney mentioned that “coffee can be harsh on the stomach due to its acidity, while green tea is typica

Telepathy Machine? Here’s What MIT’s AlterEgo Wearable Actually Does

There’s a new wearable in town and it looks like telepathy in action. It’s called AlterEgo, and its secret isn’t magic or mind-reading.. Its makers say the hardware detects “silent speech,” including everything from mouthing words to vocalizing internally (think subtle internal movements).. AlterEgo’s demo features projections of the “silent speech” detected by the wearable. AlterEgo. This means many tasks normally done with your voice could now be done silently, including conversation, live translation between languages and controlling digital devices. The device itself is worn on your ears.. There’s a privacy benefit to not having to vocalize sensitive information in public, but there are also privacy concerns that naturally arise whenever a computer comes between two people communicating.. How it works. AlterEgo, a spinoff company from the original MIT Media Lab project of the same name, says the technology behind AlterEgo builds on what researchers call “silent speech,” a method for interpreting the subtle neuromuscular signals involved in speech before words are spoken aloud.. But AlterEgo’s system goes a step further. Its creators developed a system called Silent Sense that allows the device to detect multiple forms of speech activity — from normal speaking to silently mouthing words or even the faint muscle signals that appear when you intend to speak.. If that gives you pause and you’re wondering whether the device can read your thoughts, it can’t. Instead, it detects the signals produced when a person deliberately engages their speech system.. The future of accessibility?. AlterEgo has the potential to be one of the most interesting new wearable technologies in recent memory, but I still have many more questions. Will it be used as an accessibility tool like implantable BCIs from Synchron and Neuralink? How does AlterEgo differentiate between the intent to speak and actual thoughts? Could this technology be somehow repurposed to do the latter?. At the time of writing, AlterEgo had not responded to a request for comment. To see highlights from the demo, check the video in this article.
